About Relapse Justifications

emma.richardson

Relapse justifications are thoughts that occur prior to re-engaging in substance use. A person may have decided to stop using, but the person’s brain is still healing and still feels the need for the substances. The dependent or emotional part of the brain invents excuses that allow the person in recovery to enter into situations where relapse can occur.

You may remember a time when you intended to stay substance free, but your mind came up with a justification for using. Then, before you knew it, you had used again.

What is your experience of relapse justifications? Do you any questions about them?
